Ultimate Canada Update Letter from the Editor
You know spring has officially sprung when the April UCM drops. That or when the plus 20 C weather officially hits (sorry East Coast). The whole country has dusted off their outdoor boots and hit the field running. We are really excited to release this new look, new feel UCM that covers a variety of topics from player and team profiles to regional updates.
We start out with the Ultimate Canada awards.
With so much great and spirited talent to choose from the awards committee has their hands full every year. This year was no exception as we received a bounty of amazing nominations for each category. Our eventual winners embody spirit of the game and competition and are shining examples of Ultimate in Canada.
Our national team spreads give the reader an inside look at the players chosen to represent Canada on the international stage. It’s a WUGC and WJUC year and we have the rosters and more starting on page
12. Our briefing on championships past and to come gives everyone something to strive for this year.
Our stacked regional update section includes a taste of everything, from a rainy battle for BC between UVic and UBC to shoveling some snow so the tournament can go ahead in Halifax. Sport Life’s Scott Taylor contributes an article about Ultimate summer camps in Winnipeg and Jordan Meron gives us the inside scoop on the changing landscape of women’s Ultimate in Ontario.
Our one-on-one player profile digs deeper into what makes 18-year-old Laura Kinoshita tick. Learn about her experiences with other sports and her already staggering accomplishments in the world of Ultimate. We hope this edition of the Ultimate Canada Magazine fires you up to get back outside. As always, I’ll see you on the field!
