Summer Ultimate camp will be the ultimate in fun Lots of sport, lots of fun By SCOTT TAYLOR/Sport Life
Sean Seywright can’t imagine
a kid having more fun than he or she will have than at the Independent Jewellers Ultimate Park this summer.
From July 16 to July 29,
Manitoba Organization of Disc Sports (MODS) will hold a two- week Ultimate Summer Camp. For Seywright, the Business and Sport Development Manager for MODS, it will be the ultimate in summer fun. “The camp is two weeks in length and includes three age groups – 9-11, 12-14 and 15- 17,” Seywright explained. “And it will be the ultimate in both good times and and athletic competition for the kids. We’ll have Ultimate, Disc Golf, Flag Football, Soccer, Soccer Baseball and even Scavenger Hunts. And I think the best part about it is the price. The entire two
week camp is only $300 and a week is $175. I don’t think there is a two-week day camp in Manitoba that’s that economical.”
It’s the first year MODS has operated a summer camp. For Seywright it fits perfectly with the organization’s mandate and will encourage more growth for a sports group that is getting bigger every day. In fact, there are more than 5,000 members today and that number is on the rise and at the end of May, the provincial championships will attract more than 60 school teams. It’s a busy couple of months on the horizon.
“We have the
U-15 Provincial Team Development Camp running the first two weeks of July, but that is an all Ultimate camp,” Seywright explained. “Knowing we
need to be leaders in the sport community and as our membership and sport recognition rises, we have made the commitment to run an open sports camp for the second two weeks in July this year and we’re really excited about what we have in store.”
“Our aim with this camp is to have a program that kids will get excited about just on the myriad of sports and being activities being provided It’s pretty much just all of the great things we enjoy doing outdoors as youth in this province.”
