Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game
What is the Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game? The AHGCUG is the world’s longest annual Ultimate game. The 2015 edition was played in 31 Canadian communities and three international community over 34 consecutive hours. The goal of the game is to promote Ultimate and raise funds for a great cause. In 2014, Dubai was the first international community to take part.
How does the game work? Each hour, starting Friday, June 10, a community will play an hour-long game. There are two teams (Team Red and Team White). At the end of each game, the finishing city will pass along the score and the next community will start. The score continues along with the game. After the final community finishes, the final score will determine the winning team.
Where does the money go?
Money raised by Canadian communities will go towards the Art Hawkins Ultimate Fund. The newly designed Art Hawkins Development Fund will support the accessibility and development of Ultimate and Spirit of the Game in Canada with children, youth and those with a disability, especially in economically disadvantaged communities. In 2014, the AHGCUG raised over 10,000. We have lofty goals but we hope to exceed $15,000 this year. For non-Canadian communities you are welcome to donate to the Art Hawkins Fund or raise funds for projects in your community that share the same spirit as the Art Hawkins Ultimate Fund.
