The Classical Concert of the Year - Grand collaboration between Spanish / English musicians
What has been called the classical concert of the year is to be held on Saturday 7th May at 8pm at the Centro Ecumenico – Cristo Resucitado in Calle Diamante, La Zenia.
The exciting programme is headed by the very popular Vivaldi’s ‘GLORIA’, and features a full supporting programme including Mozart’s Ave Verum, and the Laudate Dominum from his Vespers, as well as Caccini’s Ave Maria, and the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, and more. Orchestral numbers will include the Sinfonia from Messiah, and Albinoni’s famous Adagio for Strings. The whole concert will be accompanied by the professional players of the Mediterranean Symphony Orchestra, based in Montesinos, and the whole programme will be conducted by Nigel Hopkins. This whole event is the brainchild of local professional singer, conductor and vocal coach, Nigel Hopkins, who has added 20 further singers to his highly successful chamber choir, In Harmony, bringing the number of singers performing to 45. The three soloists will be English sopranos Verity Hall and Mary Beer, and Spanish voice teacher Belen Puente is the Alto soloist. Nigel Hopkins says, “With an English (ex-pat) choir, a professional Spanish orchestra, both English and Spanish soloists, this is truly an international event. Hopefully it will be the first of many, and I would urge the music-loving public of both the Spanish and the ex-pat communities to support this popular concert”. Tickets at 12€ (in aid of church funds) are available from La Ponderosa gift shop at La Zenia C.C. or from choir members.
