This information brought to you by Asociacion Amigos Europeos de Javea The warning signs of a heart attack in women and what to do
The classic symptoms of a heart attack include a feeling of extreme pressure on the chest and chest pain, including a ‘full’ sensation. This can be accompanied by pain in one or both arms, jaw, back, stomach or neck. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, light-headedness and a feeling of breaking out in a cold sweat.
The difference with women: Although chest pain and pressure are the characteristic symptoms, women are somewhat more likely than men to experience a heart attack that does not occur in this typical fashion.
Instead some women may experience
more headedness, nausea, extreme fatigue, of the
other symptoms like light- fainting, dizziness,
or pressure in the upper back. The problem is that because of the absence of typical symptoms associated with heart attacks in men, many women who have heart attacks think the symptoms are due to another condition, like the flu or gastrointestinal re-flux.
But the fact is that such symptoms should not be ignored. The U.S. is one of the most advanced countries for treating heart attacks yet amongst U.S. women who die each year, one in four dies of heart disease. In fact nearly 60% more women die of cardiovascular disease (both heart attack and stroke) than from all cancers combined.
Thus women of all ages should be concerned about heart disease, and all women should take steps to prevent it. Both men and women have heart attacks, but more women who have heart attacks die from them. Sometimes this is because women ignore the ‘other symptoms’ as described above. Treatments can limit heart damage but they must be given as soon as possible after a heart attack starts.... ideally treatment should start within one hour of the first symptoms.
So just as with men, women should not take chances. Call Asociacion Amigos Europeos de Javea immediately if you are a member on 96 579 6099 (24hr) or if not call 112.
Do not try to drive yourself to hospital. Call for an ambulance
instead....the ambulances from Asociacion Amigos Europeos de Javea have trained staff who can give you oxygen, heart medications and pain relievers; monitor your heart rhythm and
vital signs, and transmit potentially life saving information to the hospital to get a jump start on tests and treatment. Plus, arriving at the emergency room by ambulance allows you to bypass the waiting room.
The 2015 statistics are in: during 2015 Asociacion Amigos Europeos de Javea attended to over 1000 ambulance situations.
Because of heart attacks and all the many other medical and emergency situations that can and do arise, you would expect an emergency ambulance service to be busy, and oh yes, here at Asociacion Amigos Europeos de Javea we certainly are. Our emergency medical teams and their top of the range equipment have saved many lives, have helped many people in trouble, and have come to the rescue of many people in emergency situations.
Throughout 2015 we attended to over 1000 ambulance situations of one variety or another, and in fact just four weeks ago all of our fleet of ambulances were in use at once, a scenario that doesn’t happen very often. Thank goodness we took delivery of the two new ambulances during 2015 or what would we have done?
An enormous thank you goes out to the charities and organisations like the Roundabout Charity Shop who help support us with fundraising events and activities. Without your support and help we could not do the work we do. If your organisation wants a good cause to raise money for, please, please think of us.
