NATM Expands Technical Subcommittees Tracks

NATM Expands Technical Subcommittees By Meghan Ryan, Communications Director

NATM had a number of significant successes in 2015 and the Association is off to a good start for 2016. Committee assignments were made and goals were set for 2016 and many of the committee members attended the Committee Meet & Greet Breakfast held during the 28th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas.

A number of years ago the NATM Board of Directors recognized the importance of making committee assignments early and setting specific goals for each committee. Since that time, the number of committee volunteers has quadrupled.

This year, dozens of individuals who had never served responded to the survey for committee volunteers. The NATM Technical Committee continues to be the most popular committee and unfortunately it is usually impossible to accommodate all of the volunteers and still keep the committee a manageable size.

Due to the popularity of the NATM Technical Committee, the NATM Board of Directors has divided the responsibilities of the technical committee and created three new subcommittiees: Technical Education, Technical Safety, and NATM Guidelines.

Chris Steinman is continuing to serve as chairperson of the Technical Oversight Committee which is responsible for overseeing the three sub-committess as well as monitoring SAE trailer task forces, identifying safety issues in the industry, collecting safety data from regulatory agencies and associations and assisting as necessary on the sub-committee goals.

The NATM Guidelines Committee is chaired by Paul Feight, MGS, Incorporated, and the committee will be responsible for the annual review of the NATM Guidelines for Recommended Minimum Manufacturing Practices for Light-and Medium-Duty Trailers.

The Safety Committee, chaired by Fred Dosmann, Dec-O-Art, will be working on standardizing the use and placement of warning labels for universal consumer understanding.

The Technical Education Committee is chaired by Owen Shelton and will help to complete tasks from the Technical Oversight Committee as well as help plan the workshops and educational sessions for the Technical Forum hosted annually

during the NATM Convention & Trade Show.

All members serving on NATM Technical Committees will be invited to attend the annual on-site NATM Technical Committee meeting. Previous locations have included U-Haul's Technical Center in Tempe, Ariz. and Champion Hoist's facility in Dunn, NC.

The 2016 NATM committee roster may be found on the facing page. It’s not too late to get involved. If you are interested in serving on a committee, contact Pam Trusdale at Pam.Trusdale@natm.com or by calling NATM headquarters. Detailed committee information may also be found on the NATM website, www.NATM.com on the "About NATM" tab.
