Headquarters Report Tracks

Senators and Representatives. NATM staff provides materials, handouts and talking points for each of the visits. Each group is led by an experienced past participant to help new attendees get comfortable with the process.

Those attending in past years have found the meetings to be very worthwhile. Randy McMann, Titan International, attended in 2015 for the first time. He stated, “It was one of the most enjoyable and interesting days I have ever spent. This is the NATM at its best. I challenge everyone to participate in this event.”

Brett Johnson, President/CEO, Optronics International, has been a regular participant. He says, “The Hill Visits were a valuable opportunity to explain and advance NATM interests in Congress. There is no better vehicle for advancing NATM member interests such as doubles tow-away and uniform brake requirements than face-to-face meetings with key members of Congress. Moreover, it was a great opportunity to simply educate members on who NATM is and what we stand for – particularly consumer safety which is of interest to all members of Congress. This introduction

and education will greatly assist in our future efforts to advance our industry agenda.

Out of the eight Hill meetings I attended during my very first visit, none of the members were familiar with NATM. They are now! This is what leads me to my next point. We need to more aggressively promote attendance to next year’s Trailer Roundup! We need more NATM members to attend in order to educate and advance our interests. What a few can accomplish, more can better accomplish!”

All of the new attendees in 2015 have indicated that they plan to attend again this year. If you would like to get more involved and to educate your members of Congress about your industry, please mark your calendar and plan to join us in Washington, D.C. on July 13th.
