DISC system, and how they relate and interact. Everyone wants to identify with their own strengths, and this activity was perfect for waking us up and getting us to come out of our shells. I admit, I never thought of myself as someone who could use more testosterone, which he claimed was a benefit of holding our arms up in the victory stance, but as I looked around me, my arms were up with everyone else’s, and I also had a huge smile on my face, which is rare for me that early in the morning.

Two particular classes stood out as being the most

relevant to my own professional situation, and addressing my concerns: “Creating Word of Mouth Advertising” by Rick Wren, and “Automate Your Business” by Jack Kramer. On the topic of choosing presenters for their ideal convention, Chris Lambrinides wrote about Thad Eckhoff’s process: The people he chose “…spoke with authority on solid business-building topics. Real tangible stuff you could learn about and implement in your business right way.

The whole trick to why this worked is that he only invited presenters that he personally wanted to hear. He wanted to learn something as well. The bar was set high and there was no fluff. If they weren’t great, they weren’t invited to speak.”

In his talk about word of mouth advertising, Rick

Wren (a window cleaner from my own neck of the woods in Minnesota) started out by telling us that he is first and foremost a writer, and uses stories as a way of illustrating and connecting with his clients. I was fascinated by this concept, and came away with three pages of notes on how to reward existing clients and gain more of the types of clients you want. In addition to being extremely relevant to my own situation, his instruction was also powerful in that in through his own personal stories of window cleaning and being an employer he elicited, from much of his audience, both laughter and tears. I am assuming that in a roomful of window cleaners, this is a very special talent.
