Robin Tucker
WCM: Tucker has not done so well recently, how come?
invention of the PC), by end of 1987, he asked me to come on board. He also was a strong proponent of global sales.
In 1990, the State of Iowa honored us for exporting. My father expanded our exports and together we expanded sales into Europe and the Middle East.
Myself - I worked with my father from 1988 to the middle 2014, with Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc. My wife and I were involved with Tucker together for over 20+ years. Dad asked other members of the family over the years to join in, such as my wife in 1990.
We also had other ventures, not within Tucker Manufacturing that my father created. By 2015, it was time to pass the baton to someone else. We are happy for Shawn Gavin to be that person and for Reach Higher Ground to be that company to carry on the Tucker® brand, our customers, distributors and some of our vendor relationships.
There is a lot of history over the years. We went from buying a natural brush to producing a fine professional window cleaning brush, one we would put up against any in the window cleaning market.
Many of our customers found it be the one for them. Interview with Shawn Gavin of RHG
SG: Hi Lee. Thanks for your interest in RHG and the Tucker brand of products.
WCM: How important is an established brand like Tucker?
SG: The name Tucker is the most well known name in the industry in our opinion. Some know it due to having actually used the product and others know it simply based on the term 'Tucker poling'. So in my opinion an established brand, especially the Tucker brand, is extremely important.
being a struggle for the company. Being a supplier to the window cleaning industry we were getting frequent calls about alternatives. We offer what we believe to be the best composite poles in the world in the Gardiner range, but Tucker shoppers simply were not interested. They don't want composite poles, they don't want plastic goosenecks and they certainly don't want UK based brushes. They know what they like and they aren't willing to settle for anything else.
WCM: What extra exposure does this offer you now?
SG: 58 years worth. Tucker has been marketed to the window cleaning and janitorial industry, as well as hospitality, schools etc for a long time. Buying Tucker gives us access to 58 years of customers. As we are primarily a pure water system manufacturer we are able to introduce our water system technology to these customers and expand
SG: Well, that depends on who you speak to I suppose. My personal opinion after learning what I have through the acquisition and now the first 90 days of operating the company is that it was failing due to a lack of overall motivation to succeed. The company is now into its third generation of family ownership and many times the fire that was lit early on has died down.
WCM: So, why buy Tucker?
SG: Why not? For me it was a no brainer. Tucker has a very loyal following despite the last few years
