Associate Member News Fairs and Education.. Over the years we have found that fairs

have a wonderful opportunity to educate their communities and especial- ly the children in many different fields. From agriculture to science to animal care and husbandry, history including national and local history as well as ancient history. They can educate in mechanics and farm- ing. There are many options now with exhibits and educational programs that can be brought to the fair by subcontractors or even built locally to teach students in all age groups. Sponsors and advertisers also may want to participate. One example is a local tractor sales company teaching all about his products and letting the children enjoy the experience attaching plows, working gears changing tires or a number of different pro- grams. A car dealer, parts store or home building store can do the same with his products that could be tied into a professional exhibit, many of which are available.

Educational exhibits and attractions are also great opportunities to

involve the schools in the fair. Field trips can be planned and local inter- est built as a result. During morning hours prior to fair opening, especial- ly during the week, if elementary children are brought to the fair via a field trip it can go a long way when they participate in the different edu- cational programs. As a result, they will want their parents to bring them back in the evening to enjoy the fun.

Testing of students can be tied in to the educational exhibits and pro-

grams and info can be shared in advance with the schools for the stu- dents to see what is coming and get involved with their friends studying and learning about the upcoming exhibit. Programs with competitive prizes can be offered for the best students with the best scores to receive free passes for rides and food if they come back to the fair in the even- ing. We have made the suggestion to have a prevue day for all educa- tors, teachers, principals and administrators, inviting them to the fair and

100th opening of the historic Grady County Fair in Chickasha, OK. We celebrated a ribbon cutting for the new Outdoor Event and Rodeo Arena and the ground breaking of a new climate controlled indoor event arena. The new outdoor event arena boasts 1,300 seat covered grandstand and a new entry structure designed to blend with the historic 1930’s art deco fairgrounds buildings. The new indoor event arena will allow the fairgrounds to host regional and national equestrian and livestock shows as well as family entertainment shows and expositions. Populous designed the master plan for the ambitious expansion of the fairgrounds and has followed through with the construction of the two new event arenas to be fully com- pleted in 2016.

Populous Celebrates Milestones…. On August 17, 2015 Populous celebrated two milestones at the

showing them all the educational opportunities the fair has to of- fer. Have light food and refreshments for them or maybe samples from vendors. This brings interest and involvement locally that can really bring long term fair growth.

We at Capitol International Productions have developed a stable of

educational exhibits. All of our animal attractions educate first and entertain second.. We offer science exhibits like the Kidz Science Safari from the U of TX, Wild Science and Kids science shows like Professor Gizmo and the Bing Bang Boom Science show. History is featured thru the American Heritage Show, ancient history like KING TUT, Political History like the presidential exhibit and JFK. Our Fishing Friendzy teaches environmentally safe fishing practices as well as giving the whole family the opportunity to learn and participate in catch and release fishing, right on the fair grounds. Mechanical students can enjoy attrac- tions like NASCAR and Build a Truck as well as many other options in all different budget ranges.

Fairs are fun but fairs are also an avenue to make a difference in the

lives of students. Helping them to find what interests them in many different areas and encouraging them to be educated in that field. If you think of ideas to support this effort we encourage you to share those ideas with the Florida Federation of Fairs and the IAFE to make our fairs an even better means to teach and generate more interest in the many different fields of education.
