2015 Hillsborough County Fair

Florida Fair News

The annual Hillsborough County Fair is back! Due to last year’s success, the fair was opened two weekends in 2015. The fair opened Thurs- day, October 22 and ran through October 25. It reopened Thursday, October 29 and ran through November 1 at the County Fairgrounds just east of Brandon on Highway 60. This year’s theme was “Blue Jeans & Country Dreams” and there was a long list of activities and events to go along with it.

This year featured an action-packed schedule of excitement in the

1,800 seat outdoor arena. Tickets to all arena events were $10. Fairgo- ers received free admission to the fair on the day of the event when tickets were purchased in advance. Two nights of Extreme Ranch Rodeo returned Friday, October 23

and Saturday, October 24. Real Ranch hands competed in wild cow milking, Bronc riding, branding, trailer loading, and mutton busting for the children. Sunday, October 25, the Bulls and Barrels show had fairgoers on the

edge of their seat! The following Friday and Saturday nights, October 30 and 31, dirt

was flying in the arena when it hosted the Truck and Tractor Pull com- petition. The fair wrapped up with a “bang” Sunday, November 1 at the Dem-

olition Derby. Cars crashed and bashed for cash. Last car moving won! Livestock shows are a staple at the fair and this year was no excep-

tion. Shows feature dairy, beef, goats, sheep, swine, rabbits, horses and poultry. Home arts, canning, sewing, baking, fine art, photography and needlework was open to everyone, along with special “just for kids” competitions. The always interesting Recycled Yard Art competition returned. Free shows included Robinson’s Racing Pigs running and swimming

to the finish line, The Firefighter Show, and Herriot’s Family Fun Cir- cus with horses, dogs and people performed to the delight of the crowds. Our Hometown Hillsborough area was like a walk through yester-

year. This historical area continued to grow and featured hay rides, scarecrow making, sugar cane grinding and syrup making. The art of charcoal making and blacksmithing was be demonstrated. The area was rounded out with old engines and machinery. Round bale decorating, bullwhip cracking, FFA/4-H Day, cooking

contest and a horticulture show, and a coloring contest rounded out some of the youth competitions.

The 2015 Amateur Talent Show sponsored by Owens’ Air Condition-

ride midway. Wristband ride specials were available each day of the fair. The Bay Area Bandits mounted shooters performed in the arena on

Saturday morning October 31. Fairgoers enjoyed the mounted shooting excitement of the old west in action! Let’s not forget your favorite fair food! Sausage, fries, elephant ears,
