The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition is the recipient of the 2015 Leisure & Entertain-


ment Services Firm of the Year award presented by the Latin Builder's Association at the 35th Annual LBA Awards luncheon. “We were in good company for the award and are proud that the Mi-


ami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition took home the trophy,” said Robert Hohenstein, president and chief executive officer. Among the other category finalists – Miami Heat, PGA Tour of the


World, and Resorts World Bimini – the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition was the only nonprofit organization. Representing The Youth Fair to accept the award were Claudia Her-


nandez-Maltes, director of marketing and entertainment, and Julie Blanco, director of administration and compliance. Governor Rick Scott was the keynote speaker at the Sept. 25 event at the Hilton Miami Downtown. The Youth Fair is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that


awards more than $330,000 annually in college scholarships, cash pre- miums and awards to local public, private, charter and home school


2016 Marks “65 Years of Smiles” at The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition

The 21-day event will be held from March 17 through April 10, 2016, except March 28 & 29 and April 4 & 5 at Tamiami Park, 10901 SW 24th Street (Coral Way), its home since 1972. Years of Smiles” featuring the traditional fair favorites for the entire family, as well as new delicious foods, live outdoor enter- tainment, concerts, rides, agricultural and academic exhibits and much more. The main stage will feature a nightly laser show complete with


laser beams, visual effects, fog and images choreographed to classic songs, to further celebrate this major milestone. Also bringing vibrant colors this year are Light up the Night


Robots with over 2,000 LED lights and 300 feet of LED tape. These high-energy robots are sure to make heads turn at their DJ booth where they will be interacting and dancing with guests. Fairgoers will be able to enjoy a one-of-kind 100-ton sand


sculpture and witness its taking shape by professional sculptors as they design a unique fair-themed piece. Also new in 2016 is an ice skating show, A Celebration on Ice,


with performances by talented professional ice skaters with elab- orate costumes, lighting, sound, special effects and scenery. Strolling entertainment includes the return of The Youth Fair’s


favorite clowns, Tadpole and Katie. Back for a second year will be the fun furry characters, The Fritters, whose energetic and acrobatic moves thrilled fairgoers, becoming an instant hit with families. Other Youth Fair favorites returning in 2016 are the Show-Me Safari Petting Zoo with exotic animals for families to pet and feed, plus the always-thrilling pig races. The Royal Han- neford Circus will have their iconic red and white big top tent to delight guests with all new unforgettable acts. A highlight in 2016 includes The World of Agriculture’s original butter sculp- ture. Guests can enjoy watching the sculpture throughout its vari- ous stages of production. Also at World of Agriculture is Cow- town, where families can learn how to make butter, ice cream,

cheese and soap directly from professional farmers. They can even learn how to milk a cow. This year’s newest activities at Cow- town include broom mak- ing and leather craft demonstrations. As part of this year’s exhibits, a post- er contest will take place for children grades 2-5, asking, “How do you celebrate an im- portant event?” allowing them to illustrate their understanding of the phrase “Let’s Celebrate!” One of the most important reasons to visit The Youth Fair is of

Guests will also be able to enjoy their traditional Youth Fair treats with the return of an assortment of classics such as elephant ears, fresh corn on the cob, cotton candy, corn dogs, crazy ice cream concoctions and of course, the Youth Fair’s famous turkey legs.
