to expand A HOLIDAY caravan park at East Malling with a controversial plan- ning history is set to expand with the addition of five new units. Approval for Heath Park – a static holiday park with 10 log cabins (car- avans) at The Heath –was originally granted three years ago by Ton- bridge and Malling Council, who subsequently agreed two further ap- plications – an increase in width of the units in 2013 and the following year for steps and verandas. An application by Garry Haf- fenden to extend the park by eight units was withdrawn before it was due to be heard at a planning com- mittee meeting in January.However, planning officers have now recom- mended a similar scheme involving five units for approval, subject to conditions. The borough council had carried
out a planning enforcement investi- gation following concerns about the cabins, which can only be used as holiday accommodation and not permanent dwellings. But a plan- ning report said there was no evi- dence a breach of planning permissionwas occurring at the site. The units would have minimal im-
pact on the countryside, said the re- port. Councillorswere due to decide after the Downs Mailwent to press.

Stones’ turnover up as they look to expand
TURNOVER at Maidstone United FC during their third season back in the county town was up – al- though profitswere slightly down. Maidstone United Holdings Ltd,
which groups together all of the club’s business activities, reported a turnover of £1.36m – up from £1.26m in the previous period. Gross profit ignoring tax, interest and amortisation was £245,000, slightly down on the £289,000 achieved in the previous period. More than 1,000 season tickets
were sold last season and atten- dances for league matcheswent up more than 10% on the previous year, but the increased turnover was mainly due to additional in- come from the FA Cup run, which included two televised matches. Player wages were higher last season, as the club sought promo- tion to the National League South, knowing this could bring signifi- cant grants for stadium improve- ments.
Announcing the financial results,
club co-owner OliverAsh said:“We are pleased with the results of our
third season's trading.We will con- tinue to be prudent in order to en- sure the club is secure and sustainable.We see in these figures further evidence of the success of the 3G model in building an attrac- tive football and social facility, which is appreciated by thousands of local people. “We now need to build up cash resources even faster ifwe are to de- velop the stadium further. It will be a hugely expensive project. In par- ticular we now need more local companies to come on board to- gether with our existing business partners and share the benefits from the positive image we now have as a club and business.” The need to keep expanding the
stadium to comply with league re- quirements is likely to be an on- going challenge as the club seek to fulfil their medium-term ambition to return to the Football League, ac- cording to fellow co-owner Terry Casey, who said: “We are very for- tunate to have a growing supporter base, with plenty of enthusiastic youngsters, who feel a real attach- ment to their club. “We can look back with satisfac-
tion at what has been achieved and the sound base that we have to move this club on to the next level.” All spare cashflow from profits
and reserves has been reinvested in the extension project, which has achieved the 3,000 capacity neces- sary should the club gain promotion.
