Town Talk Pond clean-up

wins praise THE pond at the junction of St Bene- dict Road and Birling Road, Snod- land has been cleaned up by a team from the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership. Anne Moloney, vice-chairman of Snodland Town Council, said: "The improvement is spectacular and people were coming up to the vol- unteers to congratulate them. "Pond weed was removed as well

as several old shoes and a bike. There was a surprising amount of wildlife, including a moorhen nest and at least one baby newt. "Many thanks to Derek, who led

the team, and the borough council for organising it." A spokesperson for Tonbridge

and Malling Council said: "Following discussion with the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership it was agreed that the Thursday Action Group would carry out some work to open up the pond a little."
