Town Talk

actor Simon SIMON Gifford goes from being George V hobnobbing with the Queen and Winston Churchill one day to walking round Snodland High Street chatting to his mates. Simon (46),

of Holborough Road, has ap- peared in Les Miserables and his next appearance is in Suffragettes, starring Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Helena Bon- ham Carter, which comes out in October. His sister Claire spotted an ad- vertisement for extras for Les Mis- erables in 2012 and asked Simon if he wanted to go with her. "So many people turned up and

we spent six hours standing in the cold," he said. "I was shivering and my nose was red – just right for the part of a French peasant." John, who attended Snodland Church of England Primary School and Holmesdale Technology Col- lege, is a school courier. He loves the countryside and walking, trav- elled to Jordan last year, wants to see the world and "doesn't want to get shackled."

where refreshments, including a hog roast, were served. Visitors met the Sandhole team, watched a fun dog show and the children had games and face-painting. Manager Verity Johnson bought

the practice three years ago with husband Ian, who started there on work experience. She said: "We held an open day

Visitors included people with

pets, those thinking of getting pets and those who no longer have pets "but are like friends who just come along to see us”. The practice, which employs 24 people, is open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4pm on Saturdays and 10am to noon on Sundays.

Pupils run for charity

SNODLAND Church of England Primary School raised more than £4,000 in a Race 4 Life cancer charity afternoon. The target was £1,600. The course was set up at Potyns Sports Ground and all the children and staff took part, completing either 1km or 2km, depending on age. Everyone was presentedwith a Race 4 Life medal. Head teacher Holley Hunt said: "It was fantas-

tic to see a sea of pink fill the field. To have the whole school, staff and children, participate in such a worthwhile event, and even more so, raise lots of money to help beat cancer was re- markable."
