Town Talk Jamie recovers from op
JAMIEMaynard, the four-year-old Snodland boy at the centre of Jamie's Wish to Walk campaign has had his operation at Lon- don's Great Ormond Street Hos- pital and was due to be discharged on October 16. More than £30,000 has been
raised to pay for the specialised equipment and physiotherapy Jamie will need for the next year while he recovers from the oper- ation. He is pictured in hospital. The operation was to cure spastic diplegia cerebral palsy which forced Jamie to use a walker for short distances, when he wasn’t in his wheelchair.
June is jumping for joy!
JUNE Wright, who was reported in the last Town Talk as being pre- pared to jump from an aeroplane at Headcorn airfield hoping to raise £1,400 for a church hall, has achieved an incredible £3,700. June, of Brook Lane, Snodland is 83 years old and said she could have raised about £80 with a coffee morning but decided on the tan- dem sky dive for the hall at Christ Church, Malling Road, Snod- land which, she says, “is old and in need of TLC”. She admits to having problems sleeping for several nights before the jump and is pic- tured with instructor Garry Willard. “I was pretty ok going
into the plane,C said June. “Garry sat behind me and edged me to- wards the open door. You are 12,000ft in the air and travel at about 120mph when you fall from the plane. I felt sick initially and was about 200ft in freefall before the parachute opened.” Back on the ground June described the experience as fantastic. Afterwards she had people coming up to her in Snodland who had seen the article in Town Talk, congratulating her and giving her do- nations.
Jamie's mum and dad, Donna
and Tim, and sister Robyn have moved from Bingley Close to Cox's Close, Snodland. His auntie, Claire Saxby, told
Town Talk that he is doing well. After spending three days flat on his back he was able to sit up for 10 minutes with support. He was then able to stand ver-
tical in a special bed and now has physiotherapy, which will continue when he gets home. Claire said: "Jamie's parents
are overwhelmed with words of support and encouragement and it is really difficult being away from Robyn."
