TOWNSEND Hook Bowling Club hosted a charity match against Snodland Town Active Retirement Association (STARA) and raised £400 towards Jamie's Wish to Walk.

Garden party celebrates 40 years of friendships


Boxer George


set for fight A SNODLAND man who has won an England kick-boxing champi- onship is about to take part in his second professional boxing match. Welterweight George Hennon of Malling Road will fight AliWyatt at the Civic Hall in Grays, Essex on October 17. George (21) was born in Snod- land and has two brothers, Matthew (25) and Harry (18). He lives with father Frank, who works for the London Ambulance Serv- ice, and mother Jacqueline, who works at Holmesdale Technology College, Snodland. He went to More Park Primary School, West Malling and Holmesdale College. He worked for Fleet Promotional Packaging, Snodland for two years and now works for Tone Scaffolding. George started kick-boxing when he was six and was crowned the International Kick Boxing Federation English light- welterweight champion when he was aged 19. George told Town Talk he be- came interested in boxing when he was 17 and started when he was 19, but never fought as an amateur. His first professional fight was at Grays in June, with a points win over Matt Seawright. He is a member of St Mary's Am- ateur Boxing Club, Chatham and trains at the well-known Peacock Gym in east London under Johnny Greaves. "I lovedmy first fight," he said. "In kick-boxing I have fought in front of big crowds. I felt very confident and I don't think I stopped smiling the whole way through."


FORTY years ago Shirley Crowhurst, PatWilson, Joan Hold- stock and Dawn Chapman thought it would be a good idea to have a tea and coffee morning and a chat for youngmums. They met on Tuesdays in the hall


at Christ Church, Malling Road, Snodland and Coffee Break has now celebrated its 40th anniver- sary at a church service and lunch in the Rectory garden, St Kather- ine's Lane. Nicky Halls, who has been the


leader for many years, described the hall as a good place tomeet as it had a friendly atmosphere and children started as babies and stayed until they reached school age.


"They have always had fun using


all the toys and equipment we pro- vide," she said. "We sing songs with them and


do activities and over the years we have raised money and donated it


to children's charities." The ladies who started Coffee


Break also ran a pram service on the third Tuesday of each month, when the children and mums go into the church for songs and sto- ries.
