Teenage Pregnancy Strategy Consultation

Community Pharmacy supply of emergency hormonal contraception has contributed to the declining rate of teenage pregnancy in Scotland however those living in the most deprived areas are fi ve times more likely to have had a pregnancy and deliver twelve times more babies than those from the least deprived. It is the aim of the Scottish Government Draft Teenage Pregnancy Strategy to reduce this fi gure by providing a holistic approach to pregnancy in young people.

Actions suggested in the strategy include ensuring young people are aware of the full range of contraception available and their options when contraception fails. The strategy also recommends that professionals should adapt practice to reassure young parents. The draft strategy can be viewed at www.gov.scot/Publications/2015/07/3144 and the consultation is open until the 29th

September.
