Customers do not want to compromise on quality over price. The Alvita range offers a high-quality product that is always aimed at being priced below the leading brand, using the scale and expertise of Walgreens Boots Alliance. The Alvita team believes high quality healthcare should be accessible to all, and it is not just patients who benefit: with competitive trade prices, pharmacists can also keep their margins healthy. The Alvita range is also only available from pharmacies, unlike some of the other brands which can be bought at supermarkets, and this helps to create customer loyalty for pharmacies.

• Incontinence: A high-quality range of pants, pads, all-in-ones, and bed pads, for reliable management of light to heavy incontinence.

MEETING CUSTOMER NEED Ensure your customers have the patient care products they want, whenever they want them, at a competitive price.

With an extensive range of products under one roof, Alvita offers community pharmacists the unique opportunity to ensure they can meet

customer needs at a competitive price with daily delivery and backed by reliable customer service support.

THE ALVITA DIAGNOSTICS RANGE Used properly, diagnostic products allow for earlier detection of health problems and closer monitoring of existing conditions, while also encouraging increased patient involvement in their personal health. Used improperly, diagnostic products are of limited value and may even be detrimental to the patient’s health. Therefore, the role of the pharmacist in distributing diagnostic products and assisting the patient to understand the proper use of such products is critical.

Alvita offers a wide range of diagnostics which are designed for ease of use, offer good quality and come at a competitive price. Products include family planning products such as pregnancy testing and ovulation testing kits, blood pressure monitors and thermometers.

A number of factors, such as increasing prevalence of infectious diseases, rising incidences of lifestyle diseases such as cardiac diseases and diabetes, rising usage of home-based point-of-care (POC) testing devices, and technological advancements with regard to development of advanced, faster, and easy-to-use devices, are stimulating the demand for diagnostic testing.

The increasing popularity of home screening kits in recent years has created a whole new area of pharmacy services, bringing preventative healthcare into people’s homes, and increasing awareness of certain conditions. These test kits are not designed to replace medical advice: they are for use at the beginning of the care pathway as a convenient and confidential way to be tested quickly for a suspected condition. Pharmacists play a vital role in ensuring that these screening kits are used correctly to provide the most reliable results possible.

GETTING TO GRIPS WITH INCONTINENCE Estimates of the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) in the UK vary widely, due to different definitions and because many people are simply too embarrassed to admit to having a problem at all. In Scotland alone, it’s estimated that between 210,000 and 335,000 adults live with some sort of UI problem (5-9% of the adult population). In general, urinary incontinence is two to three times as common in women as in men.1 Prevalence increases with age, with an estimated 46% of women and 34% of men aged over 80 being affected. What’s more concerning is that up to 60-80% of sufferers have never sought medical advice for their condition and 35% view it simply as part of the ageing process. In most cases, these conditions can be easily treated or significantly improved via straightforward interventions.

For those suffering from incontinence conditions, Alvita offers a comprehensive range of pants and bed pads to support the needs of patients with bladder weakness, alongside a new range of light incontinence pads.

Pharmacy teams play an important role with patients who are affected by adult Incontinence. Due to embarrassment and confusion about the products available, over half (55%) of women are not using a product designed for sensitive bladder, compromising instead with sanitary pads or frequent changes of clothes.

Given the added-value service pharmacy staff can provide on this subject, not to mention the profit potential from one of the fastest growing OTC categories for pharmacy, it’s important that pharmacy employees know how to engage effectively with these potential customers.
