Keep your eyes and ears open: Dunblane is fi lled with music of all kinds and this season, 2015/16, the Arts Guild, or DCAG (Dunblane Cathedral Arts Guild) is celebrating 40 years of music-making!
Founded in 1976, the aim of DCAG was, and still is, to bring professional musicians to Dunblane to give concerts for all the community to enjoy, in the wonderful setting and acoustic of the Cathedral.
Over the years there has been a steady fl ow of outstanding musicians visiting and an amazing variety of concerts, and we continue to extend a friendly welcome to music-lovers from Dunblane and beyond. Our concerts are open to everyone - young, old, and in between - and we aim to provide variety: chamber ensembles, choirs, soloists, chamber
orchestras, jazz groups, and explore a range of styles, medieval to contemporary. We try to be innovative in our programming and to encourage both young professionals and our talented local school-age musicians. Our Open Platform, held annually in March, has helped many an inexperienced local performer gain in confi dence and enjoy playing to family, friends and supporters on a public platform.
We’ve got a great line-up this season as well, as you’ll see from our programme inside the back cover. And to celebrate our 40 years, we’re sponsoring some special events. Together with Enterprise Music Scotland, the Arts Guild is funding Travelling by Tuba to give workshops in September at Newton, St. Mary’s, Dunblane and Doune Primary Schools, and so that all the family can share in the fun, this multi -talented duo is also giving a Family Concert in the Cathedral on Saturday 19th September at 4pm.
For something completely diff erent, we’ve commissioned our fi rst new work. Composer Suzanne Parry, whose work for Artisan Trio so captivated the audience in 2013, is writing a piece of music for us. Just what it is and who will be involved is wrapped in secrecy, but you will be able to follow her blog. We’ll be shedding light on the commission as the year goes on, ready for a fi rst performance in September 2016. So, keep your eyes and ears open: the Arts Guild is still bringing concerts to Dunblane and is 40 and thriving!
