Female Focus Is your body feeling the heat?

One of the reasons why many people move to a sunnier climate is to improve their health outlook. It is a common belief that living in a warmer country, our bodies are less prone to aching or stiff joints. However, though many doctors recommend heat therapy, it is not true that this is correct for our bodies to always function at their best. In particular, osteoarthritis can feel worse when the weather is hot and humid. A colder, drier climate is more suitable to help keep joints moving with less stiffness or pain. The heat and humidity can irritate the nerves and this can cause some increased inflammation, making walking, bending or even using your hands more difficult.

At his chiropractic clinic in Benijofar, Dr Hans

Christian Madsen DC treats patients who suffer from painful or stiff joints, in particular, arthritis. He also treats spinal injuries, (Sciatica, disc-related) sports injuries, damaged tendons, muscles and other painful conditions, including neck-related tinnitus and back-related painful feet.

He explains the benefit of ‘cold’, not heat to his patients. When the injured or damaged area has been treated, it is important to use an ice pack on this area, at regular intervals. The effect of this coldness triggers a brain response to immediately send blood to warm it up, thereby returning the area to normal body temperature. The oxygen in this blood helps to feed the damaged cells and tissues, so bridging the healing process in between treatments. Dr Madsen ensures patients that regular use of ice packs will encourage faster healing.

Treatment for osteoarthritis of the joints: He has more than 22 years’ experience using Shockwave therapy. Over time, calcification can build up affecting the joints of the body, including shoulders, hips, knees, hands or feet. Shockwave therapy removes this calcification which helps to release trapped nerves, resulting in more movement and less pain. Patients are then treated with laser therapy, which helps to regenerate new cell growth.

Laser Therapy: Dr Madsen has developed his own specific laser systems which vary in intensity levels, allowing him to treat a wider range of injuries. The lasers can strengthen and heal damaged cells. They produce a penetrating light which supplies energy to the body. The tissues and cells absorb this energy where it is used to accelerate the normal rate of healing. It brings vital nutrients and fluids to cartilage and discs and increases blood flow to the injured area. Laser therapy is safe, non invasive, non toxic, easily applied, highly effective and has no negative side effects.
