innovative and profitable aquaculture sector. The main focus for the Slovenian Maritime and Fisheries Operational Programme is €17.46 million for the sustainable development of fisheries, aquaculture, fisheries and aquaculture areas, and for marketing and processing related measures.
Commissioner for Fisheries, Karmenu Vella, said: ‘The EMFF, in synergy with efforts from other EU funding, can play a vital role in helping Slovenian fisheries, aquaculture and fishing communities thrive well into the future.
Bakkafrost invests in new well boat
FAROESE fish farming company Bakkafrost has taken delivery of a modern new well boat that will help drive its expansion ambitions. The multi-million pound ship, Hans á Bakka, was delivered to the company last month from the Tersan shipyard in Turkey. The 3,565 tonne ship has an overall length of 75.8 metres, with a beam of 16 metres. Chief executive

THE Greek fish farmer Kefalonia Fisheries has been audited and found compliant with all the strict Friend of the Sea criteria for sustainable aquaculture. Kefalonia Fisheries, which farms sea bream, sea bass and meagre, uses only floating cages with a semi-automatic feeding system to
reduce the impact on the surrounding ecosystem. The distance between cages and seabed allows for seabed protection. Neither GMO nor growth hormones are used. The company produces eight million fries and more than 3,000 tonnes of fish per year, over 80 per cent of it exported.
