European News NEWS... Companies compete for Aqua Nor Spain creates industry network innovation prize
THREE finalists have been chosen out of 17 proposals for Norway’s Innovation Award, to be presented during Aqua Nor later this month. Protex AS has, with SINTEF as its development
partner, developed work clothes especially adapted to tomorrow’s needs in the aquaculture industry. Storvik Aqua AS and EBTech AS have submitted a patent application for a system for biomass measuring of salmon. This is based on a 3D technique using high density cameras and filter combinations that give a precise basis for calculating fish biomass. Strand Prolog AS, with Måsøval Fish Farming Co, has developed a barge, HeliXir, with tanks and equipment for medicinal treatment. The Innovation Award, worth NOK 100,000 and a diploma, will be presented to the winner at the Scandic Nidelven Hotel on Tuesday, August 18.
SIX Spanish aqua- culture companies have joined forces to create the Aquaculture Marine Experimenta- tion Network (REMA), reported FIS last month. The group’s main aim
is ‘to achieve solu- tions to scientific and technological chal- lenges of the Spanish marine aquaculture industry’.
One of its projects will be to launch an experimental offshore aquaculture farm,
which will be unique in the Mediterranean. In this farm, research will be performed with
scientific criteria but it will be operated as a production farm and with a commercial
dimension. REMA will also be a
reference for informa- tion.
