WORLD NEWS IN BRIEF
FLUIDRA ACQUIRES AUSTRALIAN CHEMICAL COMPANY Fluidra has acquired Price Chemicals, an Australian company specialising in the manufacture and distribution of products for the chemical treatment of water. Price Chemicals is one of the leading companies to supply water treatment products in Australia’s pool and spa industry. With annual sales of around €7m, this former family business founded in 1984 has a production plant near Sydney. The acquisition will allow AstralPool Australia to add chemical products to its current range of products (pumps, filters, cleaning accessories and pool heating systems). Price Chemicals sells one of the sector’s most well known brands called Purex. Fluidra’s operations in Australia go back to 2006 through its subsidiary AstralPool Australia, which has eight branch offices and production plants located around Melbourne.
YMCA CHANGE POOL OPERATOR TRAINING PROGRAMME YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) is phasing out their current Pool Operator on Location (POOL) training programme and replacing it with a training option aligned with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s Model Aquatic Health Code. As part of this commitment, Y-USA signed a Preferred Vendor Agreement with the National Swimming Pool Foundation®
(NSPF) to deliver
the Certified Pool/Spa Operator® Certification (CPO®
Certification).
This agreement allows the Y-USA and local Ys to focus on their mission and to leverage the world’s leading operator training and certification programme. “Adopting the CPO® Certification program makes sense. It facilitates our compliance with the national standard of care outlined in the Model Aquatic Health Code issued by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC),” said Cindy McDermott, National Director of Membership YMCA of the USA.

Pentair ControlPro Receives German Technology Award
The Golden Wave awards ground-breaking developments in the fields of pool and wellness technology. It puts the emphasis on the practical benefits of the product. The winning products are selected by a jury composed of renowned and experienced swimming pool specialists and contractors. This year nearly 100 products in eight different categories were competing for a Golden Wave award.
Pentair Aquatic Systems Europe was granted 2nd prize in the category ‘swimming pool equipment’ with its Pentair ControlPro™ filtration manager. The Pentair ControlPro was awarded
because it offers all main functions for pool filtration including automatic backwash control and filtration pump speed control in an ‘all-in-one’ system, easy to install, easy to use, cost-efficient and affordable. Save energy either with single speed pumps thanks to thermoregulation or even more with variable speed pumps as the different pre-set modes will run the pump at the speed you need at the time you need it. In ‘Economic mode’ for instance, variable speed technology moves water more efficiently at lower speeds, reducing energy costs by up to 80% while optimising filtration and reducing needs for chlorine.

World Water Day Marked By Water Conservation Standard
To mark World Water Day back on 22 March, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP), America’s only industry organisation accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to write the nation’s pool, spa and hot tub standards, and the World of Recreational Water Foundation (WRW), announced the initiation of a new ANSI/APSP Standard for Water Conservation Efficiency in pools, spas and swim spas.
The standard covers methods and technologies to increase the efficient use and conservation of water for recreational pools, spas and swim spas equipped with a filtration circulation system. “The responsible use of water is a pressing concern for our industry and the whole world,” said APSP President and CEO Rich Gottwald. “Through our World of Recreational Water Foundation, we are striving for awareness to ensure that recreational water will be available for future generations of pool and spa owners. We have recently contributed toward the California drought relief campaign, Let’s Pool Together, to promote responsible water usage and conservation with pools, spas and hot tubs.”
WRW’s mission is to foster the safe and responsible use of scarce water resources and represent, defend and promote the sustainable use of recreational water. The foundation supports research into the conservation and energy-efficient use of recreational water, and underwrites education and training to advance recreational water environments for pools, spas and hot tubs worldwide.
“The APSP water conservation and energy efficiency standards will move the industry toward eco-friendly pools, hot tubs, spas and swim spas, meeting the demands of consumers and making sure that we are using recreational water responsibly,” said Gottwald.
The new standard is expected to be completed and submitted to ANSI in late 2015.
