P U B L I S H I N G

Twelve months ago I commented on how busy the industry was. Fast forward a year and things don’t seem to have changed all that much. People are as busy as ever – possibly even busier than ever! In fact, the last 12 months have been a bit of a blur for many as there doesn’t seem to have been much of a let up bar for the much needed and well deserved break at Christmas.

With the sun shining outside, things aren’t going to get less busy, so it’s a case of take a deep breath and here we are again with summer on the doorstep and all the factors in place for another great season ahead. Even the recent general election didn’t manage to slow down events or dampen the enthusiasm and confi dence which is now widespread across the industry. Businesses are recruiting and there seems to be more investment in the sector. So as the industry prepares for what will no doubt be a crazy few months, in this issue of S PN, we look at some of the products that could well be shining this summer, especially as a lot of purchases may be made on impulse as a result of the (hopefully) better weather. They include a feature on entry-level hot tubs that appeal to the mass market and which provide a great stepping stone in the world of wet leisure products. We’ve swim spas too, a

sector which seems to go from strength to strength every year, thanks in part to the variety of both models and pricing that are now on offer. And, to arguably sit in the middle of, and often competing against both of those, we’ve a feature on above- ground and wooden pools. All three of these product areas appeal to consumers that are looking to enjoy their leisure time and gardens more and there are good reasons to include each, or even all of them, as part of a comprehensive product offering.

We’ve also a feature on stunning stainless steel swimming pool projects plus we look at innovative products that are providing quality fi nishing touches to the interiors and exteriors of pools across the country.

Another fi nishing touch is lighting and we take a dedicated look at a sector that has moved on at great pace over recent years thanks to new technologies, innovations and better knowledge.

Talking of innovations, there’s also a look ahead to the many shows that are taking place both here in the UK and further afi eld. There have been various announcements and changes recently to a number of the events so make sure you are aware of what they are, as some are fairly major.

In addition to these features, we have our regular stories from the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) which this issue includes some key information from both RoSPA and RLSS UK on pool safety and there’s expert advice from STA on managing infl atable hot tubs safely. Plus, of course, there’s our usual roundup of all the latest news from across the UK wet leisure industry and around the world.

As always, it’s a jam-packed issue. If time allows, I hope you enjoy it!
