POOL & SPA INDUSTRY
Pool Industry Promotions (PIP)
If you’re in the business of Wet Leisure, you’ll be pleased to know that there is a taskforce working for the benefit of your industry
I
n 2011, Pool Industry Promotions was assembled by the BSPF to bring together the experience and knowledge of a dedicated group of industry professionals from both SPATA and BISHTA as a Marketing & PR Committee with the purpose to ensure there is adequate promotion of the wet leisure industry.
WHO ARE THE PIP COMMITTEE MEMBERS?
The PIP committee is a group of ‘Blue Sky Thinkers’ headed up by Jamie Adams – PIP Chairman (Golden Coast), Chris Hayes (BSPF/BISHTA/SPATA Managing Director) and Sallie Golding (BSPF/BISHTA/SPATA –
PR & Marketing Manager) supported by the current committee members Ben Studdy (Certikin International), Mark Ramsden (CPC), Jeremy Chalke (Spruce Pools), Neil Dalziel (Aquaflex), Alex Kemsley (Waterstream), and Rob Coombs (Deep End Pools).
PIP’S STRATEGY
In order to ensure that PIP meeting agendas are topical, the committee meet on a bi-monthly basis as well as holding a focussed strategy meeting in the Autumn each year to discuss plans for the year ahead. Meeting formats are initiated by bi-monthly reports compiled by Sallie
JAMIE ADAMS – PIP Chairman and Managing Director of Golden Coast “As a past President of the BSPF and current Chairman of PIP, the industry’s marketing organisation, I am a passionate supporter of the wet leisure industry and committed to its long term growth and development. PIP has
national reach. It has the strength to get positive articles on all aspects of the wet leisure industry into both the national press and countrywide lifestyle publications. Any industry needs a strong and effective voice that can speak for the good of all of its members and, I believe, that PIP plays an important part in achieving that on behalf of all of us who work in Wet Leisure.”
BEN STUDDY – SPATEX Director/ Current Chairman of SPATA Thames Valley / Commercial Director of Certikin International
“I have been working within the pool industry for over 30 years and have seen it mature from a modest cottage industry to a larger professional
industry with global reach. It is so much more than the ‘pool’ industry it was, it has grown into an all inclusive Leisure industry with so much more to offer. With such change, there is a need to ensure that we present a professional face to the public and to do this we need to adopt modern methods.”
JEREMY CHALKE MISPE – Director of Spruce Pools
“I joined the PIP committee because I felt it was a good opportunity to be involved in how the industry is promoted. The PIP committee works hard to ensure that the wet leisure industry has a positive media presence and is

Golding, whose responsibility it is to see the committee’s actions through to fruition. Sallie comments: “We have taken some huge steps to move forward with our plans since I joined the BSPF, and in return we have been rewarded with great results. Working in partnership with the PIP committee is therefore extremely beneficial to my role; the committee provides a wealth of experience, their reactions and suggestions to my ideas help me to test validity or likely success before going public, making the group a perfect sounding board.” Here’s what some of the Committee members have to say about why they commit their time to PIP;
well promoted to the consumer in various different forms. PIP is an important part of how and where the industry is promoted and being part of the committee allows me to contribute to that decision making, which can only be a good thing for my business and everyone else who works within the wet leisure industry.”
NEIL DALZIEL – Joint Managing Director of Aquaflex Ltd
“What soon became apparent to me after I joined the committee, was PIP is the only concerted effort within the industry working not only for the industry as a whole, but the only one aimed outside the industry – in
other words, focussed on the customer. Apart from self-serving initiatives from individual companies, there is nothing promoting the swimming pool industry to the end user. PIP is the one body aimed at increasing consumer awareness of swimming pool and spa products and I was quickly struck by the many and diverse characters who contribute to this ‘melting pot’ of ideas, most of which are successful – but the aim is always to grow the industry for everyone within it.”
ROBERT A COOMBS – Director, MISPE of Deep End Pools
“Being a member of PIP provides the perfect opportunity to ‘pool’ thoughts with people looking deeper into the industry for the longer term benefit for the industry. It is a very inspiring place to be, and all the
rewards are spilled out into the industry as a whole. If I could best describe why I am a PIP committee member, I would use a statement by Gary Vaynerchuk “The best marketing strategy ever: CARE.”
