POOL LIGHTING CASE STUDY Pooling Light Solutions From Light Projects
The Light Projects group has worked with lighting designer Kate Beard on a stunning lighting scheme for a new residential swimming pool complex in Wimbledon using fibre optics from Danish manufacturer Roblon.
Fibre optics have been installed in the ceiling as well as in the swimming pool itself to complement the different areas and create a sense of uniformity and continuity across the whole scheme designed by interior designer Charlotte Crosland. The pool itself was constructed by the London Swimming Pool Company.
The pool is cleverly illuminated using three projectors, each of which serves a different function. In the main body of the pool, the fittings alternate between
with the microprocessor offering simple cycling through 12 programmes with a single switch. Available in white and RGB (both have a concrete and liner versions), the ColorLogic II projector features a lower energy consumption plus a remote control is ava ilable as an option.
Hayward Mini LED white or colour lights are also available and can be used on all pools (new and replacement market with a specific puddle flange) to light specific locations such as steps or spas. This low electric consumption LED can be synchronised with the ColorLogic II projector. New for 2015 are CCEI’s Eolia WEM/ WEX replacement LED bulbs with a PAR56 format and Gaia LED lights. Eolia lights have a scatter angle of 120° so the number of lights can be limited while providing the same luminosity inside the pool. The Gaia LED lights come in cool white and colour versions, fit into a universal niche for any type of pools and are available exclusively from SCP.
Another interesting lighting product from CCEI is the Borea LED light for above-ground pools. Available as either a 40W white or a 30W colour light, the Borea projector gives the same lighting power as for in-ground
focused and wide so that different effects can be achieved by having one or both projectors in operation.
This scheme illustrates perfectly the versatility and adaptability of fibre optics over traditional light sources in wet area installations. Fibre optics are low
maintenance with the advantage of having the light source remote from the fittings. This makes lamp changing more convenient and safer as the light projector can be sited well away from the pool area and at ground level. This is better than traditional fittings which need to be re-lamped and, when located within the pool or above the pool, therefore require scaffolding towers and pool coverings. Another advantage of fibre optics is surface temperature. The light ends are cool to the touch which is very important bearing in mind that children with bare feet are often playing near and around the fittings.

pools and it can be easily fitted onto the above-ground pool’s outlets.
BRITESTREAM MULTICOLOURED LED LIGHT FROM WATERCO With a great range of multicoloured LED lights from Waterco, it’s easy to add a new level of ambience to a pool. Britestream’s multicoloured LED light can produce a multitude of different colours without the need for coloured lenses. The light’s multicoloured combinations are easily programmed via its light switch. The Britestream multicoloured LED light has been cleverly designed with a built in colour memory, which means that the light’s multicoloured LEDs will simply default to its last colour selection. Nine different colour programmes are available, including white, slow changing multi colours, fast changing multi colours, blue, magenta, red, gold, green and aqua.
Britestream LED light utilises energy efficient super bright LEDs and operates on only 15 Watts of energy, which is equivalent to only 15% of the power of a standard underwater pool halogen light. The BriteStream comprises a precision-
built printed circuit board that is totally enclosed in a waterproof housing constructed from polycarbonate materials that are UV-, abrasion- and corrosive-proof.
Britestream LED lights have a lifespan of more than 70,000 hours, which equates to a whopping 30 years of usage at an average of six hours per day and they are available as a flush-mounted or a wall mount light.
