n 2016, SPATEX celebrates its twentieth anniversary and, like the industry it represents, it has come a long way in its size, representation and stature. Much more than just a pool and spa Exhibition, it has become the UK’s number one workshop and training forum attracting each year, hundreds of visitors from both home and abroad. To commemorate its Platinum anniversary, we have collated some of the lesser-known facts about SPATEX and its characters – see how many you know!
01 Since opening its doors 20 years ago, SPATEX has welcomed over 31,000 visitors.
02 SPATEX employs an independent registration company to verify all of its visitor facts and figures.
03 SPATEX is open to all. On average only 28% of SPATEX exhibitors are SPATA or BISHTA members.

10 Always innovating, SPATEX in 2015 introduced a highly successful second seminar programme with esteemed bodies such as PWTAG and STA hosting talks.
11 SPATEX Organiser, Michele Bridle has a son who is a professional wrestler, Angelico, who lives in Mexico and wrestles for Lucha Underground.
12 All international visitors get their taxi fares paid by SPATEX from Birmingham international airport to the Exhibition’s centrally located venue at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. 13 SPATEX 2016 will feature an exciting New Products Area and there’s the opportunity to upgrade your shell stand. Watch this space for details. 14 Industry stalwart, John Asher of Asher Swimpool Centre in Lincolnshire is one of SPATEX’s unsung heroes. He has worked tirelessly for the Exhibition and has turned his hand to everything!

04 In its 20 year history, SPATEX’s loyal partner, the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers (ISPE) has provided 400 workshops to over 7,500 delegates! This highly prized, up-to-the minute training and education is free and unique. 05 SPATEX’s HQ is based in the Andover offices of the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) where the meeting room is available to hire for a very reasonable cost. 06 SPATEX exhibitors tend to be a loyal bunch – 55 companies have exhibited ten times or more in its 19-year history. 07 SPATEX Co-ordinator, Helen Mulingani is a skilled horsewoman and local riding club secretary and competes in many events. 08 SPATEX has traditionally been held in February, as there’s a general consensus that this is the perfect time for the Industry to gear up for the forthcoming pool and spa season. 09 Since the inception of certificates of attendance in 2012, SPATEX has issued 1,250 certificates for its ISPE workshops.

15 Organiser Michele Bridle joined SPATEX 16 years ago as a temp to cover maternity leave and never left! Michele is currently walking the El Camino de Santiago in stages.
16 SPATEX is a winning team, as it has been voted one of the top three organisers by its contractors, Freeman and the Ricoh Arena team.
