NEWS IN BRIEF
F T LEISURE WORK ON DURHAM TRINITY PROJECT Durham Trinity School & Sports College is a co-educational community special school catering for pupils aged 2-19 with a wide range of special educational needs. Its facilities were becoming aged and too small and the needs of its 204 pupils were changing so the school has been totally rebuilt. The school is also a Sports College and pupils have the opportunity to access a range of additional sport activities and experiences. Facilities at the new complex include a swimming pool and a hydrotherapy pool for which F T Leisure was appointed to carry out the design of the water treatment and filtration systems. A UV sterilisation system was incorporated into the hydrotherapy pool to cope with the high anticipated levels of pollution. Funding for the multi-million pound investment is through the government’s Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP). The main contractor was Sir Robert McAlpine and the architect was Parsons Brinckerhoff.
TOWN COUNCIL CASH FOR SWIMMING POOL Shepshed Town Council in Leicestershire has announced it will provide over £20,000 to Hind Leys swimming pool so that it can provide new facilities. At a full council meeting, councillors decided that accrued Section 106 money, which is cash given by developers for local infrastructure that could be affected by new developments, should be spent on one of the last school swimming pools in the area.
Earlier in the year, the pool’s manager highlighted it was in major need of refurbishments, mainly to its changing room facilities, and successfully secured a Council Grant for £2,500. The pool is used by local schools, mother and baby groups, disabled groups and operates a number of classes.

DaleSauna Develops Bespoke Facilities For Exclusive London Development
DaleSauna has completed work on one of London’s most exclusive residential developments. Located opposite Kensington Palace Gardens in London, One Kensington Gardens is a collection of 97 luxury apartments designed by David Chipperfield Architects and delivered by Sir Robert McAlpine for the client De Vere Estates. In addition to 24-hour concierge and valet parking, the development includes an indoor swimming pool, a private health and fitness centre, spa and treatment rooms.
DaleSauna worked with Andrew Hapgood, lead architect at David Chipperfield Architects, to design a highly bespoke sauna and steam room for the scheme. Quality of design and attention to detail were absolutely critical for this lavish development. The sauna is constructed in lime and obeche and features a distinctive ‘corrugated’ interior detail which echoes the exterior wall finishes, and features a bespoke bench profile and marble skirting. The steam room is clad in marble with a rendered painted ceiling and LED uplighters.
DaleSauna has been involved in the project since 2013. The level of detail involved in the bespoke sauna and steam required several meetings on site as well as a visit from the contractor and architects

to inspect work at DaleSauna’s factory. “Whilst the project only included a sauna and steam room, this is most certainly the most technically demanding sauna design ever undertaken by Dalesauna. The minute attention to detail demanded by David Chipperfield was sometimes frustrating, but well worth the end result,” says Gerard McCarthy, Sales Director at DaleSauna.
