Dunblane High School

In the past few weeks, Dunblane High School’s partnership with a school in Likhubula, Milawi, has been a strong foundation for the people of Likhubula in their time of need. Unfortunately, there has been devastating fl ooding in the local town of Milawi, which has majorly eff ected daily life for the local citizens. Here at Dunblane High School, we have been doing our upmost to fundraise and support our friends in a desperate time of need. We would like to share with you what we, at our school, have been doing to help with this tragedy and how, together, we can accomplish things that make a diff erence.

What’s happening in Likhubula? Over in Likhubula a disaster has struck. They have encountered large fl ooding, which has destroyed their homes, schools, crops and hospitals. It has left Likhubula in an awful state with no electricity. Due to the fl oods the water systems are down, which has been forcing the population to drink from the rivers. This puts local residents at risk of being infected with Malaria and Cholera. To add to the bad news, they have had very little rain since the fl oods, so are facing a bad crop year, essential for living. Many families are without shelter. We appeal to you to recognise how bad their situation is and to recognise that what we are doing, however small, can make a huge diff erence.

What are we doing to help? Throughout our school, we are raising money for the town of Likhubula, to help bring the town back to its feet. On Friday 31st January, there was a bake sale, organised by some of the pupils in our school. This consisted of an assortment of delicious treats that people could buy and their money would go towards our cause. We have also had general collections going around classes among other things. The pupils involved in the ‘Likhubula Link’ have been working tirelessly and we’re sure the little bit we can contribute will make a massive diff erence.

Dunblane High School will continue to help Milawi for as long as they need it. 72 To advertise in thewire t. 07720 429 613 e. the.wire@btinternet.com
