Thompson Health Care Education for be er care

Thompson Health Care homes offer high- level care in luxurious surrounds featuring all the modern conveniences, but Proprietor Doug Thompson recognises that their most valuable asset is their staff. Employees across all Thompson Health

Care homes, which extend from the Mid-North Coast down to the Southern Highlands in New South Wales, are encouraged to reach their full potential through ongoing education and training. As well as workplace training in areas such as health and safety and infection control, staff attend workshops, courses, self-directed learning and seminars on subjects like dementia care. Many staff study at university level or complete Certificates III & IV in Aged Care Nursing or Leisure and Health. Jenny Jones, Director of Nursing at

Thompson Health Care’s Mona Vale House, said that Doug Thompson and his team are committed to continuing education for all their staff. “We also have great support from the aged

care community in delivering high quality education and training sessions to our staff, residents and families that enhance the quality of care for our residents,” Jenny said. In recognition of the hard work staff put into their education, Thompson Health Care host an annual graduation for the Sydney and Highland homes, and one in Kempsey for Macleay Valley House staff. At both graduations staff receive beautiful Villeroy & Boch crystal glasses, or large crystal bowls for those who complete longer courses. On Tuesday 28 October 2014, 180

such graduates from nine homes enjoyed an evening of fantastic food and wine at beautiful Miramare Gardens at Terrey Hills. Guests were treated to a special performance from Kamahl, the iconic Australian entertainer with a sensational voice. He was a huge hit with the crowd, even receiving a shout of “I love you” from one enthusiastic fan. Graduates were presented with their certificates on stage and photos taken with Kamahl and Doug Thompson. Earlier in 2014, 60 graduates from

Macleay Valley House staff celebrated with an evening of superb food from their own in-house chef and received their certificates and gifts from Doug Thompson and Liz

Valley House staff continually strive for that little bit extra to give to our residents. "Because of this, they have embraced the

culture of learning which has become an integral part of our home,” Robyn said.
