Sydney's favourite weekender The Rereat at Wisemans

View from a guest room at the Australis Retreat at Wisemans

If you want to getaway for a few days without catching a plane or train, it's a wise choice to make a retreat to the peace and quiet of the Australis Retreat at the historical river settlement of Wisemans Ferry on the Hawkesbury River. Embraced by well-known national parks,

Dharug to the north and east, Yengo to the north-west, Cattai to the west, and Marramarra to the south - Wisemans Ferry is an enchanting village on one of the country's most famous waterways. It is also key to the history of the expansion of Sydney. The settlement is named after its founder, Solomon Wiseman, a former convict (1778–1838), who received a land grant in the area from Governor Macquarie in 1817. He established the ferry service in 1827 for the transport of produce and provisions to the convicts building the Great North Road to link Sydney with the fertile Hunter Valley.
