A classic, bright look for Sandfords’ new offi ce in Primrose Hill makes a great impression in a compact space.
W
hen Sandfords decided to expand its successful London operations to Primrose Hill, creating the right feel for the
new offi ce was crucial. Their potential clients are a discerning, articulate crowd who recognise good design when they see it. Sandford’s Director Andrew Ellinas knew
he wanted a classic feel for the offi ce but relied upon MPL Interiors – with whom he has worked with on numerous occasions – to refi ne his ideas and work them up into a practical design scheme. “Our ideas went backwards and forwards
with lots of remodelling along the way but the result of all the fi ne tuning was a simple,
elegant interior with touches of design fl air. We’re really happy with the end result and have already had lots of compliments about the new offi ce.” Tim Lowton, lead designer on the project at
MPL Interiors, points out that brainstorming lots of ideas at the start of the job helped shape a really successful design. “Not everyone comes to us with a concrete idea of what their new offi ce should look like. With Sandfords lots of words and phrases got bandied about, like “classic”, “village”, “loft living” and even “industrial”. It’s our skill as refurbishment specialists to blend all these ideas and come up with one unifi ed design. In Sandfords’ case, the overarching theme

ended up as ‘urban village’.” The backdrop for the design is white washed walls, which creates the sense of calm and space. It’s also the perfect foil for some clever branding in the reception area. The Sandfords name in its distinctive blue is mounted on the wall – standing proud as acrylic letters mounted of clear studs. Accompanying it is a unique piece of wall art by MPL Interiors in complementary shades of blue – a dramatic injection of colour that breaks up the white space. While the offi ce didn’t have grand
proportions, taking a bespoke approach to the interior has had the most eff ective results. As well as the space-giving white walls, MPL

installed custom made desks and a striking curved reception desk. There’s also a stud wall in the waiting area where a LCD screen was fi tted fl ush and feature ‘cubby holes’ with internal lighting either side of a structural column.
And just because the space is bijou, it
doesn’t mean the design statements have to be small. Le Corbusier Barcelona-style chairs in the reception, a subtle feature wall to the rear of the offi ce and eye-catching pendant lighting all give the offi ce personality. Andrew says, “We turn to MPL Interiors as they are specialists in estate agency refurbishment. They were able to run with our ideas and put their own professional spin on the design. With our new offi ce we’ve been able to make an instant impression in Primrose Hill.” ●
