2600 miles is a very long cycle ride... but they did it!

They did it!

The Zoopla British Property Cycle is completed. Sponsored by

C

ongratulations to Jon Cooke and his band of many merry and varied cyclists who covered the 2600 mile circuit around the UK in 32

days to raise money for the Estate Agency Foundation, to help combat the causes of homelessness. Between the puffi ng and wheezing Jon managed to keep up a breathless blog to chart their enthusiastic and dogged progress. We print some excerpts here:

JULY 27: Base camp established – Springfi eld campsite, Exeter. The ride starts tomorrow – an event of such magnitude it eclipses the 2012 Olympics! The support team has established camp and is trained to a peak level of effi ciency, alertness and fi tness, the cyclists have nothing to fear! The lead cyclists have yellow jerseys and stick on sideburns to emulate Bradley Wiggins and the Zoopla charity wagon is ready!

JULY 28: Day 1 – Exeter to Plymouth Great send off ! Thanks to Christopher Hamer and Bill McClintock, from The Property Ombudsman, for joining us on the tandem! Thanks also to Andy Jones, LSL Asset Management and Mark Harrison, Experian who joined us. Within the fi rst three miles we got lost, went down a dead end and Sam Lindley fell off his bike, not a bad start to the 2,600 mile trip. 67 miles cycled. Thanks to stage sponsors Wilkinson Grant and Co.

JULY 29: Day 2 – Plymouth to Helston A big learning curve and lots of hills! Thank

you to Maitlands in Plymouth! Their cycle team was great fun and their support team was awesome. Hadn’t realised how tough this was going to be, but spirits are high!

JULY 30: Day 3 – Helston to Newquay A fast cycle to Penzance, dropped in at Millers and picked up negotiator Liam, who showed us the scenic route to Lands End. Then a relatively long slog, via lunch in St Ives, to Newquay. Met up with (my) kids, where in their words the campsite was “epic” – I was tired and went to bed!

AUGUST 1: Day 5 – Barnstaple to Weston Super Mare Successfully completed 91.5 miles with 1 in 4 hill climbs (25 per cent) and 25 mph fast fl at roads. The ‘Wiggo’ team visited three estate agents offi ces en route. Thanks to sponsors yesterday NAEA & ARLA. In the evening we had a reception in Weston-super-Mare by one of our main sponsors Fine & Country – great to see agents cheering us on including Andrews.
