AUGUST 24: Day 28 – Herne Bay to Hastings Joined by a team from Clifton & Co, our sponsors for the day – thanks for turning out in numbers! Also joined by Justin and his son Luke from Charles Eden, Charles very dapper in his branded shirt. A very picturesque route, hugging the coast, but after punctures and mechanical issues, the clouds came in and the rain started. After 104 miles, 12 hours in the saddle and several estate agencies (collected sponsorships!) in really tough conditions, it was bedtime.
AUGUST 25: Day 29 – Hastings to Portsmouth Torrential rain, galeforce wind, joined by Giles from WA Ellis and a mate, who defi nitely drew the short straw. Thank you to WA Ellis for sponsoring the day; I bet Giles wished it had been another day! Through Brighton along the coast, gale force winds in our faces heading to Portsmouth. Thus our average speed was ridiculously low, so we missed the Lord Mayors reception in Portsmouth and had another 12 hour day in the saddle! A big thank you to Fine & Country Portsmouth where Colin Shairp had arranged a mayoral welcome party (thank you!) and then straight to bed; three days to go!
AUGUST 26: Day 30 – Portsmouth to Poole A sunny start, joined by the best dressed team, the Marsh & Parsons cycling team, whose marketing department had worked overtime and dressed them in skin tight Chris Hoy style full length suits which didn’t leave much to the imagination! Peter Knight from the Property Academy was on his second day, had joined us in Brighton. We were also joined by Dayoo, who had all the gear but not much idea, he had everything colour co-ordinating, the gloves, outfi t, bike, water bottles, unfortunately his cycling didn’t match! Our day fi nished with a visit to Berkeley estate agents. Again thanks to sponsors The Property Ombudsman.

“We cycled over some horrendous hills but the scenery was truly spectacular.
AUGUST 27: Day 31 – Poole to Bridport Joined by a large group of agents for our penultimate day, an air of excitement as this massive challenge was nearly over, the weather looked OK and the team included one of the main sponsors Brief Your Market as well as Simon Whale sporting a very bright Marmite outfi t, love him or hate him! We cycled around Poole Harbour towards the chain ferry which took us across the water and then the hills began! Horrendous hills but some great scenery. Simon just about made it up the fi rst hill,
but ended up catching a lift from a passing motorist! We cycled into Weymouth and we know why the Olympic sailing was held there, it’s so windy! We cycled on over some horrendous hills to be welcomed in Bridport and the motivation of tomorrow being our last day. Roll on the last day!
Roll on tomorrow!” Jon Cooke
AUGUST 28: Day 32 – Bridport to Exeter Yes, we’re a little tired, but elated! This has been an incredibly great thing to do! Sean, Sam, Martin and I have had so much support from agents right around the country and our sponsors it has been brilliant – thank you all so much.
Sam has been inspirational and Sean,
especially after his accident, has been awesome, with willpower and an attitude that is quite incredible. Martin, our man in Scotland, aimed to complete his 540 mile section around Scotland in eight days – but fi nished it in just fi ve! We have had great weather and terrible
weather, I never doubted that we could complete the ride in terms of fi tness and commitment but there were times when I worried about the safety, especially for all the generous people who joined us. But we made it! After the last two send off s from Wilkinson
Grant in Topsham and Your Move in Exmouth, we rode into Exeter to the fi nish line at the LSLi call centre, to be greeted by over 100 people, cheering and popping champagne – fantastic! Our feelings of elation were mixed with relief hat it was fi nished and pride that we had not only raised the profi le of the Estate Agency Foundation and its aims, but also raised in excess of £50,000 to help combat the causes of homelessness. And the money is still coming in, the fi nal fi gure will be announced soon. And next year? We are planning another
ride, maybe right through the UK, following, perhaps, this year’s Olympic Flame route, with short stretches that agents can join in a relay format, so that even more can actually take part easily, without logistical challenges!
