When applying for the grant in 2011, SURL was running weekly indoor Ultimate clinics at the Saint John Boys and Girls Club. The coaches rotated from week-to-week, year- to-year, with two or three organizers to make sure coaching was covered. Before SURL received the Innovation grant, the equipment was donated or non-existent. The “Junior Clinic Ultimate Kit” was a much needed bag of equipment that could be passed on from coach to coach and help them be organized.

The kit included 14 pinnies, 10 pylons, seven discs, three rule books for coaches, promotional posters, all grouped in a convenient sport bag. The kit was a success. The kids loved the pinnies provided by VC Ultimate. Readily available discs and pylons help the coaches concentrate on the drills for the kids instead of finding supplies at the last minute.

This past November, three new innovative projects received support from Ultimate Canada. At the Ultimate Canada Conference in Toronto, three leaders faced the Dragons (Ultimate Canada, VC Ultimate, Discraft, and Five Ultimate), and got awarded funding. Congrats to Jordan Perrault (Victoria Ultimate Players Society), Jack Whalen and Victoria Brewer (Halifax Ultimate) and Jason Robinson (Toronto Ultimate Club).
