Even with breezy conditions, which would have been challenging for any adult game, the young players demonstrated a remarkable level of skill and patience, thoroughly impressing their audience. The crowd was in every play, supporting and cheering the young participants from the opening pull to the final whistle.
In the end, the score was secondary to what was a highly successful showcase of youth Ultimate. Every single player on the field left the game with a smile on their face - which speaks volumes to the spirit, camaraderie, sportsmanship, enjoyment and competition of the sport of Ultimate. It was as though everyone involved knew they had shared something significant, and they would carry the experience with them throughout their lives.

opponents, receiving high-fives and cheers from both sides. As players collected on the sidelines, the captains of Inferno (Red) and Tsunami (Blue) took the centre of the field for the disc flip, directed by nationally certified observers. Pulls and sides were determined, and the game began.

Suffice it to say that the Youth Ultimate Challenge Cup will be back again next year – and with the Ottawa Youth League boasting approximately 300 young players across the city, playing in Summer, Fall and now Winter (indoor) Leagues, and numbers growing rapidly year after year, the future of the sport looks extremely bright.
Until then, just remember, you’re never too young (or too old, for that matter) to get involved in the great sport of Ultimate. Hope to see you on the fields!
