Balancing Our Health; A Great Way to

Live! by John Van Dorp john@completebodybalance.com

Santa Rosa, CA. ~ My name is John Van Dorp. I am pleased to have been invited by the UPBEAT TIMES to contrib- ute information on health and wellness. Specifi cally, for the past ten years I have worked with clients who are experienc- ing pain and stress. As a mas- sage therapist trained in Asian Bodywork, my focus is to sup- port the healing of muscle and joint conditions such as low back,

sciatica, shoulder, and

sports injuries. I have learned that being

healthy requires balancing ev- ery aspect of our lives: diet, exercise, work, sleep and at- titude. That’s a tall order for anyone, a full time job. The state of our health actually is dependent on the many choices we make every day. For each of us, these choices add up to our “lifestyle.” Through mas- sage therapy my clients be- come more aware of their bod- ies and how they work. This ‘new’

awareness empowers them to reduce their symptoms through lifestyle adjustments. The good news is that each of us, no matter what our condi- tion, can take charge of our health and make choices that will reward us with a healthier today and tomorrow.

Becoming and staying

healthy often starts with recog- nizing that the body will break down if we don’t take care of it. By age 30 or 40 we begin to realize that we cannot continue to take our bodies for granted.

Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. ~Albert Einstein ALIVE

That turning point can hap- pen at any age. Our aches and pains, like all our life experi- ences, become our ‘teachers.’ An old Chinese saying is good advice for any of us: “Take care of your small problems before they become big

problems.”

In upcoming issues of the UPBEAT TIMES, I will offer ideas which aim to support us in our quest for better health.

A fi fteen-year-old son, bounding into the house full of energy after school, found his mom in sick and in bed. “Mom, are you really sick?” he asked, very concerned. “Yes, son. I don’t feel very well,” his mother replied.

“Well mom, don’t you worry a bit about getting dinner ready,” the son cheerfully said. “I’ll be happy to carry you down to the stove.”
