It was wh i l e watch- ing my second c hi l d’s birth that I threw a way any be- haviorist theories I had. T w o daugh- t e rs, same parents, they just

popped out different. Our fi rst child was all muscles, appeared to come out in an upright position in some- thing similar to a martial arts stance—wired and ready. Our second child slipped out.

I saw this dark black thing come pushing through. It turned out to be her head and then the rest of her just fol- lowed. Pudgy, tiny, relaxed. It isn’t just their physi- cal appearance that differs so greatly, or the manner in which they were born but their personalities. . . It was the same parents pretty much doing the same thing and these two different babies are born. And as they grow they continue to show and develop their differences.

some infl uence on children but our two kids just came out different from the start.

Little Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandmother’s house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served, and when little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away.

“Johnny, wait until we say our thanks for our food,” his mother reminded him.

“I don’t have to,” the little boy replied.

“Of course you do,” his mother insisted, “we always give our thanks before eating at our house.”

“That’s at our house,” Johnny explained, “but this is Grandma’s house and she knows how to cook!”

Although oregano is heav- ily associated with Italian cuisine it is likely that it originated in Greece. The word oregano comes from the Greek, meaning “joy of the mountain.”

Ancient Greeks be- lieved that cows that grazed on

fi elds of oreg- ano produced tastier meat. According to Aristotle, tortoises who swallowed a snake would immediately eat oregano to prevent death. Oregano is also believed to calm nerves and is use to cure sea sickness.
