 installs Making Way for the Double-DIN SUBMITTED BY: CARLOS RAMIREZ, NVS AUDIO, LINDEN, N.J.

Since the 2004 Acura NSX does not come with a double-DIN slot from the factory, the customer brought in the vehicle requesting that the dash be modified to accommodate a dou- ble-DIN Kenwood Excelon DNN990HD. To accomplish this, the team removed all the factory interior trim panels and had them wrapped in carbon fiber along with the new double-DIN radio faceplate they had fabricated. All the speakers and amplifiers in the car are Phoenix Gold,

except for the subwoofer, which is a 500-watt Hertz ES 250. To house the subwoofer, a fiberglass enclosure was built in the pas- senger foot well. The factory Bose 4-inch speaker enclosures in the doors were removed, and new enclosures were fabricated to house Phoenix Gold TI2 series 6.5-inch components, running fully active in the front doors (with no passive crossovers). For a better front stage, no rear speakers were used. The amps are Phoenix Gold RX 500.1 and RX 400.4, both class A/B. They were mounted to a steel amp rack that was fabricated and mounted to the rear wall of the trunk. It holds the amps at a nice angle for display and also keeps them off the floor for max- imum trunk space. The amps are edge-lit with blue LED strips. Since the cus- tomer could not find a front lid spoiler that he liked for the car, the team fabricated one for him out of high density polyethylene (HDPE). They then molded it to the factory bumper and had it painted to match the rest of the car.
