Wish list: What feature(s) or other element(s) would you like to add to vehicle tracking-enabled systems to make them more valuable to your customers?

“Real-time tracking rather than

just a ping. Right now, all of the tracking devices that they have, like Drone Mobile, it’s a ping. It doesn’t ask you where you are. It might tell you direction, but not real-time tracking or fast recovery in order for insurance to give a full discount.” Jay Kent, Nav-TV, Coral Springs, Fla.

“DVR recording options for secu-

rity system full-trigger scenarios. Also, to be able to activate a DVR recording in the cabin of the vehi- cle for fleet management. We have a particular one where the guys like to pick up hitchhik- ers, but they can only review after. They can’t do live feed or go back and review. We’re only for fleet management and individuals. For the individual customers, you can check on them and make sure they’re handling the products right. We need to learn how to get that out.” Micah Williams, Sonus Car Audio, Clarksville, Tenn.

“Lower monthly price. There would be a better retention rate provided the monthly cost is a little bit lower. Right now, it’s a newer technology; the product has been out for only a short while. It’s been used by cab companies and the like but not with the end-user consumer. With insurance moni- toring being involved, more teens on the road, and having a higher

take rate, more and more consum- ers are getting used to smartphone technology. It’s used for the washer and dryer, the dead bolt on the door. Everything is smart con- trol. Most of the tracking-enabled systems out there are compati- ble with smartphones. You’re able to track the vehicle from certain geographical areas through e-mail alerts. You can tell how fast the vehicle is going and why your technician is taking a two-hour lunch every day.” Paul Zaccaria, Streetstyle, Inc., St. Charles, Ill.

“I’d like to receive more car environment information. By environ- ment, I mean the situa- tion the car is in. I’d like to see video where you

can do remote video surveillance. Some parents have GPS tracking on their kids’ car, which would be nice. Another one is remote shut- down, when your car goes off, and then your car stays off until you enable it again.”

Michael Callahan, Tint World, Bensenville, Ill.

“Reliability! One particular manufacturer has a solution that looks great on paper, but has had a bunch of failures that lead to us being apprehensive selling the category. Slightly more aggressive or flexible plan pricing from the remote start companies.” Mike Bartells, Extreme Audio, Mechanicsville, Va.
