... 21st birthday party!
Well, I’ve had a busy couple of weeks, and it can’t go into next year with no reserves left, so was all coming together nicely, so I thought we’ve decided that the best thing to do, from I would have lots to tell you, but you know this year on, is to ask everybody who comes what they say about the best laid plans…….? to Fling by the River to make a donation. We won’t be asking for a lot, maybe £2 per person and it will be a voluntary donation. We are hoping that the Fling means as much to you as a community as it does to me.
For a few years now, the Fling Committee (my friends who organise the Fling weekend) has been able to provide a really good weekend, full of all sorts of events, because they have been successful in securing funds from various sources.
Last year, for various reasons, the amount of funding available was signifi cantly less, but because they had built up a reserve, Fling 2013 went ahead as normal, and remember the lovely sunny weather – the whole weekend was a great success.
This year, to redress the balance they have been working extra hard applying for funding but to their disappointment, one particularly good source of funds where we have been successful in the past, has told us that the Fling no longer qualifi es for sponsorship.
It is
a signifi cant amount of money and not only will it not be available this year, but it won’t ever be available again!
That’s a real spanner in the works…..
We all got together and discussed what the options are. We all really want the Fling to continue, and we really want to celebrate my 21st in a big way, but it’s one of the things about being grown up – you have to watch the budget!
We decided that our plans for the weekend can go ahead this year, because the usual Thursday, Friday and Saturday night events normally all ‘wash their face’ or make a wee bit of a profi t. There is enough money in the bank to pay for Fling by the River this year, but we
This is not the kind of news I thought I would be giving you this month, but hope you all understand – and if you know of anybody, or any organisation, local or national, that might want to support the Fling, please let me know.
So planning for my 21st birthday weekend is going ahead, and next month, I’ll tell you all about what we’ve got planned - better news, I promise.
