Dunblane Primary School Nursery Class
To support our children’s interest in storytelling and drama we were fortunate enough to have a visit from Tapsalteerie Theatre, where the children had the opportunity to listen to Jackie, the story teller share stories using puppet and mime.
The children then had their chance to ‘act’ and participate in some music and movement where they became ice skaters, snowflakes and act out a winter theme of throwing snowballs, with the music guiding them. The session ended as the children had some quiet time and experienced the magic of their own ‘northern lights’ on the ceiling. The children’s interest in storytelling and drama continued in free play and they have been exploring different ways of creating and telling stories. They have used role play, construction and the forest to extend their play.
To
broaden
and
develop
this
context and to give the children a greater understanding of how stories become books, Lynne Rickard, author of Pink, Lewis Clowns Around and Harris The Hero visited and read her stories to the children, sharing her inspiration and how her stories are made into books.
This visit gave our children the inspiration to create their own stories and books, developing storytelling and writing / mark making skills.
