10th anniversary
This year as part of the celebrations we are creating a memory board with pictures and people’s fondest memories of the Centre. Each month we’ll have a memory and picture in theWire and begin to pull these together on a memory board.
This month our memories come from Matt Birnie, who volunteered and worked for the Centre. Being a Centre Assistant at the Dunblane centre has got to have been my favourite job so far. The people and friends I met while working there made me look forward to going into work and enjoy being there. Some of the youth events we planned and organised were mad but by far some of my best memories of working there.
The Centre “lock ins” were always a laugh. Trying to keep track of 50 kids for 12 hours over night was a hard task but an enjoyable one. It was during these events that games such as computer chair basketball were created. By the time 7am came, it was time for bacon butties and home. We were all knackered but high on sugar and caff eine and giggling uncontrollably.
The beach party was probably the event we put most work into and I think my favourite. Filling up one of our function rooms with two tonnes of sand and having several paddling pools scattered both inside and outside had disaster written all over it. 3 hours later we had covered the place in sand and water and completely used up the Centre’s water supply. After we cleared what was left of the 2 tonnes of sand out of the function room it was time to sit down, enjoy some ice cream and discuss who to phone about the lack of running water in the building. Still makes me smile thinking about that situation.
