St. Mary’s Primary School

Primary 1 have been studying Katie Morag stories as part of the Scotland context for learning. Inspired by the stories the children have now written and illustrated their own Katie Morag books.

This is Celia the dolphin, she has lots of fi shy friends. Her friends live in the sea

Katie Morag rides Celia the dolphin and she loves it.

Celia the dolphin takes her to an island. When she got off Celia the dolphin she stood on a crab and it nips her toes. Katie says, “ ow, let me go!”

Big Book Bashers

Have you ever taken part in a world book day festival? Well the children at St. Mary’s certainly have!

For world book day we did some book activities such as baking a cake related to a book, making puppets or designing a book cover. We also did a reading riot everyday, where the classes had to stop what they were doing and read for 15 minutes. Secretly, the Big Book Bashers (who organised the week) did a reading fl ash mob where they all stood up suddenly at lunch and read aloud their favourite books. Then the children took part in a quiz based on some popular books. There were two teams, ‘non-fi ction’ and ‘fi ction’. They were both amazing but in the end the boys’ team won. Mia said that ‘It was lovely to see everyone so involved with books.’

At the end of the week everyone
