BRIAN MAgOFFIN ’05 has been named the director of sports communications for Springfield College. Magoffin is respon- sible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to the 26 intercolle- giate men’s and women’s sports teams at the College. He has been a member of the athletics staff at Springfield College since 2007, serving as the assis- tant director of sports communications until being promoted to interim director of sports communi- cations in July 2012. His responsibilities have included website


maintenance and redesign, designing recruiting publications, updating and creating all social media elements involving Pride Athletics, and overseeing game-day functions with the depart- ment. Magoffin assisted with the unveiling of Inside the Pride in 2013, a weekly five-minute Web show dedicated to promoting Pride Athletics. He served as a key sports information repre-


sentative at numerous championships held at Springfield College, including the inaugural NCAA Men’s Division III Volleyball National


Championship in 2012. In June 2012, he was named one of only two finalists for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Grant Burger Media Award in the sports information category. Joining Magoffin is Pam

McCray, who has been named assistant director of sports communications. McCray will help facilitate all aspects of media and sports information. She joins the Springfield College Athletics Department after a successful tenure as a sports reporter for The


Republican newspaper and Masslive.com. Her responsibilities included covering local


high school sports with feature reports, game previews, and live blogs; aggregation posts on Masslive.com involving the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots; maintaining the high school sports page for Masslive.com; and maintaining the official high school sports Facebook page for Masslive.com. Previously, McCray served as a production assis- tant for abc40/Fox6 television in Springfield, Mass. She is currently at work on a master of science degree in physical education/ athletic administration at Springfield College.


Springfield College Hosts 20th Annual Athletic Training Student Workshop


SPRINgFIElD COllEgE recently hosted the 20th annual Athletic Training Student Workshop intended for high school students interested in careers in athletic training and sports medicine. High school students from throughout the


country attended the workshop to focus on anatomy, injury prevention, care of common lower extremity athletic injuries, and experience a hands-on exploration of cadaver anatomy.


Lectures, demonstrations, and practice sessions about athletic injury prevention and maintenance took place and students had the opportunity to attend presentations on career options as part of the curriculum. The workshop was co-directed by Springfield College Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Exercise Science and Sport Studies Wayne Rodrigues and Bob Kuzmeski ‘88, G’92.
