CLASS NOTES AND NEWS 1952


Jim Boynton spent his 102nd birthday and 80th class reunion leading exercises at the Sea View Retreat rest home in Rowley, Mass.


1938


Arthur Lalos is living in St. Petersburg, Fla., and wants to know if any of his former class- mates are around to celebrate their 75 year anniversary of grad- uation. Lalos will be turning 100 this year.


1950


Edward H. Toomer is retired and living in West Haven, Conn. His only granddaughter graduated from college in May 2013.


1951


Donald R. Desmond recently had an article published about his life as a “Renaissance man,” as he continues to create art and music at age 86. The article delves into his time spent on a destroyer in World War II; his 36- year teaching career in science, math, music, and art; his 10,000 original art works and 50 original CDs; and several other aspects of his life. Donald lost his wife of 49 years, but found love again four years ago with Maryanne Forish. The two live together in Southwick, Mass.

Herbert L. Law (G) underwent a multi-artery bypass heart opera- tion in February at the age of 90 and is now slowly recovering. He would like to wish good fortune to everyone.


Charles M. Tipton received the Clark W. Hetherington Award from the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. The award, which is the organization’s highest honor, recognizes individuals for their service to the academy and specific contributions made related to the academy.


1954


Elaine Panaretos Bowditch was one of 80 women honored as this year’s “unsung heroines” by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women at the State House on April 29. She was honored for her work on the board of the League of Women Voters of Amherst, and for being instrumental in starting a program in the office of Northwestern district attorney David E. Sullivan that helps indi- viduals on probation turn their lives around.


1955


Robert D. Bond is living in Hamilton, N.Y., and recently turned 81. He has been teaching

the AARP Driver Safety Program for 20 years after teaching high school science for 32 years.


1956


Tom Kelley taught at Illing Middle School in Manchester, Conn., for 35 years before retiring and working part time at Illing as the athletic director. Kelley also coached freshman soccer for 35 years, as well as the varsity golf team at Manchester High School for 14 years. He was eventually inducted in the Manchester Sports Hall of Fame. He also offi- ciated high school and Division I, II, and III college basketball for 31 years. Kelley has three children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.


Judy (Witham) Moss, along with Alex Gilson ’14, Cliff Moss G’57, Roger Moss ’83, and Kaitlyn Moss G‘15, celebrated the gradu- ation of Kevin Moss ’13 from Springfield College.


1958


Deborah Perrott’s dog DiOGi won Best of Breed at the 2013 Westminster Dog Show in February. DiOGi is a 5-year-old Spinone Italiano.


1960


Clement F. Stancik completed his 50th year of coaching tennis for the Brentwood High School tennis team in New York. He has amassed 429 career wins in his time spent there.


1961


Tom Jessup (G’66) and wife Judy took a road trip to visit their son, Jack, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and then headed to Gatlinburg, Tenn., to visit Tom’s sisters.

Conrad Wiezbicki was visited by classmate Dick Schneider at his home on Lake Wickabaug in West Brookfield, N.Y. Schneider was up
