From Marsh Memorial Dear Friend,
I am thrIlled to be leading Springfield College as its 13th president, and many of the reasons why are elucidated in this issue of Triangle magazine. Springfield College is a special place that has enjoyed international renown since its beginnings, a place with which I have been acquainted through my volunteer role with the YMCA. As all in the Springfield College community know, Springfield College fully embraces its mission and I can promise you that I will live that mission with you, as together we lead this institution forward. In the few short

months that I have been on Alden Street, it has been rewarding to know that so many people— alumni, parents, friends of the institution—speak so favorably about Springfield College and their experiences here. After many years in higher education, I find this truly remarkable. If this is true, it is due, in part, to you. It is the
people who make Springfield College the great place that it is. Your interest in and support of the College are valued and very much appreciated.
As you well know from your own experience here, students
are very much the life of this institution. Throughout my career, my role has always been the one of student advocate. Now, in my role as president, that will certainly not change. This college has always endeavored to provide the best opportunities for its students. In this issue we celebrate several of those opportunities, including the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Women’s Varsity Athletics, and a program that Springfield College is uniquely placed to offer: Communication and Sports Journalism. We’ve experienced tremendous growth throughout the
past decade and I fully expect that to continue in the future. Springfield College has a beautiful physical plant and we will build on that. We will look at enrollment trends and enhance our academic portfolio. We will do what we can to assure our students have an opportunity to make a good living when they leave Springfield College. “Every great dream begins with a dreamer,” said
abolitionist Harriett Tubman. “Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” I encourage you to dream along with me as we make plans for Springfield College to continue to educate individuals who will change the world. I look forward to meeting you and to learning your dreams for this institution that holds such a special place in our hearts. This college and its people are truly unique. I’m proud to
now be one of you. My very best,
President Mary-Beth Cooper
