Clarkson Edwards (G’68) and his wife, Martha ’66, are involved in community service in their town of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. Clarkson serves as commissioner of the town and Martha is involved with the garden club, women’s club, and is president of the Ladies Golf Association. They are loving life on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.


1965


David Behrend will celebrate his 50th anniversary of counsel- ing lawyers nationally next year.


1966


Juanita (Parry) Hagberg (NG) has had two of her recent watercolor paintings included in a new e-book, A Walk Into Abstracts: Volume Six by Sue St. John. The series features abstract painters’ work, discus- sions of their working process, and their inspirations.


1967


John Carson has taught and coached at Westerly (R.I.) Public Schools for 35 years. He is now a member of the Westerly High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Rhode Island Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame. Carson has been elected to the Westerly School Committee, as well as the Westerly Town Council.

Al Thomas retired as principal of Chelmsford (Mass.) High School in 2009. He was inducted into the Chelmsford High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame in March 2012.


1968


Ed Caffarella was awarded a Fulbright Specialist grant for a project designed to raise educa- tion standards in Malaysia. Caffarella is a professor at SUNY Cortland, and spent a month at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Through this position, he has now become the long-term consulting expert and reference point for curricu- lar programs and student and faculty exchange programs through the university. His wife, Rosemary (Shelly), joined him on this journey as a visiting professor at the University of Malaya.


Bob Jackson (G’73) will have a scholarship created in his name. The Robert C. Jackson Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 each year to a senior member of the Fairfield (Conn.) Warde High School baseball team, where Jackson coached for 25 years.


Lee Kenworthy (G, CAS ’72) earned a certificate of apprecia- tion from the Florida High School Athletic Association for his 30 years of soccer officiating.


Diane E. Mason was named the 2012 Florida State Special Olympics Coach of the Year.

Bob Hautala is enjoying the rain at Western Oregon University, back at his position after a six month sabbatical in Tampere, Finland.

1972 Megan McHugh and George Adams graduate from Springfield College with the Class of 2013.


Stephen Gaydosh was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in March. Gaydosh is the wrestling coach at Vestavia Hills (Ala.) High School.

Ed Walkwitz was recently honored at a gathering for people affiliated with distance running for his past efforts to promote distance running among the general public in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. He also received a recognition award for his past national distance
