EDITOR’S words L

azy summer days but there has been no let- up in the Federation’s activity this quarter

and it has been another very busy period.

On the horizon the contract to run a RAF Families Federation is due for renewal in May 14 and we eagerly await the outcome of the tender bid which we expect towards the end of this year.

We also have staff changes to report. Jenny Ward and Jenny Scott from the Evidence Team have both moved on and we wish them well. Coming on board in October, as our new Evidence Assistant, is Ruth McClelland and stepping up into the Evidence Manager’s role is Colin Jones, until our new Manager can take up the position – go easy on Colin!

The RAF FF Armed Forces Covenant Coordinators are in place and Nat and Jo have reported on their new roles in a piece on page 4 of the Covenant pull-out section. Also in this section we include a word about the Corporate Covenant, the newest Government initiative encouraging support of the Armed Forces from business.

For families, there is a tailored brief on the New Employment Model (NEM) just for them. NEM will really make its mark on the current RAF generation, and the next, and will have an impact on everyone serving and their family members too. There are rumours rife but there is nothing as yet decided on housing, terms and conditions of service and pay – but there will be! So please have a read of the article and then participate in the Armed Forces-wide consultation which runs until October (link from our website).

Do remember that you can talk to us about anything ‘RAF’ that concerns you or indeed

if you unsure about something or need help knowing which was to turn we can help with that too. And I would encourage you to keep an eye on the website for announcements, information and news.

Good reading.  Why Should YOU Contact the Federation? T

he RAF Families Federation represents the concerns of RAF personnel and their family members on the

issues that affect them as part of a RAF family.

Your views and concerns are put in front of senior RAF and MoD staffs and direct to Ministers.

The Federation is also invited to sit on steering groups where the views of RAF family members are sought. In these ways the Federation can influence change, where it is needed, for the better.

So whether you’re in uniform yourself or a spouse, a partner, a parent, a child or a sibling of a member of the RAF, the Federation is here to act on your behalf.

If you have something you wish to bring to the Federation’s attention, please call and speak to one of the team on 01780 781650 or email: enquiries@raf-ff.org.uk

We operate entirely outside the RAF chain of command, so we can always promise an independent and confidential service. Please remember it is your views that are asked for, not ours! 
